Next to Normal

Last year Alex and I began what we hoped would be a monthly Broadway date. Last year we saw In the Heights and Avenue Q. On Monday, we started off the year with a nice lighthearted show about a middle aged woman suffering from post traumatic stress, bipolar disorder and mild schizophrenia, and her neglected/miserable teenage daughter.

My lovely companion picked this one, and I, of course, had no idea what the show was about until I was telling him about my terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day, over dinner. Shit.
We arrived at the theater, and as usual there were huge posters outside promoting the show. Here's me with one of them: I told him I might have to walk out at intermission. Seriously.

But I was quite surprised and delighted (well, maybe not
delighted), to find that the show, despite it's heavy topics, was well done and incredibly entertaining. Rather than liken this families issues with my own, I left feeling like I could have it way worse. So I might have had a shitty day, but this "next to normal" family made mine look about as happy as the Brady Bunch.

So let's end with a happy family pic:
Ok, so maybe we're not that normal either.
